How to operate FC excavator

Product Knowledge | Jul 15, 2025

The operation of an excavator requires certain procedures and skills. The following is a detailed introduction to the operation method:

Preparation before operation

Choose a suitable site: Park the excavator on a solid, flat ground. If the ground is soft or potholes, fill it up and compact it first to prevent the machine from tilting or sinking.

Appearance inspection: Check whether the track is tight enough, whether the parts are loose or leaking, and ensure that the water level in the water tank and the engine oil level are normal.

Adjust the seat and rearview mirror: Adjust the seat position according to your height so that you can move freely during operation. At the same time, adjust the rearview mirror so that you can clearly observe the surrounding environment.

Start preheating: Make sure the excavator is in the common ISO control mode (the left hand controls the swing and boom, and the right hand controls the rocker and bucket movement). Insert the key to start the engine and let the machine idle and preheat for 5-10 minutes. In cold weather, the hydraulic controller needs to run for several cycles.

Basic operation

Unlock the control: Lift the red locking lever on the left armrest of the cab. It will be unlocked when you hear a click. At this time, you can operate the mechanical arm and cab.

Boom operation: In ISO mode, move the right joystick forward and backward to raise or lower the boom. Push forward to raise it and pull backward to lower it.

Bucket operation: Move the right joystick left and right to open or close the bucket. Push right to open it and push left to close it.

Boom operation: Push the left joystick forward and backward to control the forward and backward movement of the boom. Push forward to move the boom away from the cab and pull backward to move it closer.

Cab rotation: Move the left joystick left and right to rotate the cab, which can achieve a 360-degree turn.

Walking operation: There are 2 pedals in front of the cab, which can be operated by foot or manual handle. Press the pedals down or push the handle forward at the same time to move the excavator forward; pull the handle backward at the same time to move backward. Press the left pedal to rotate the excavator to the right, and press the right pedal to rotate it to the left.

Operation skills

Digging: The arm cylinder is the main one, and the boom cylinder is the auxiliary one. The bucket teeth should cut into the soil smoothly. When the soil is hard, use some bucket teeth to cut the soil loose before digging. After lifting the bucket, make a swivel motion first. When digging and rotating, the bucket can be slightly opened. When unloading soil, the soil can be thrown out by using the force of the boom to instantly retract and then open.

Leveling the ground: You need to master the operation of the boom and the boom. You can imagine it as the three sides of a triangle. By adjusting the extension length of the boom and the boom cylinder, ensure that the bucket moves in a straight line. At the same time, pay attention to the height changes of the ground front, back, left, and right, and use the leveled area or ground markings as a reference.

Digging trenches: Make sure the trench is "straight" and "smooth". You can control the straight line by aligning the center of the excavator and the middle bucket teeth of the bucket with the lime line or track marks on the ground. The bottom of the trench should be smooth, and the slope should be controlled according to requirements. If necessary, get off the vehicle to observe more or ask the construction worker to measure. When the trench is dug to a certain depth, the side blades of the bucket need to be used to cut out the slopes on both sides.

Special working conditions operation

Excavation of rocks: Try to avoid using the bucket to dig rocks directly. If digging is necessary, observe the direction of rock cracks first, insert the bucket teeth into the cracks, and use the digging force of the bucket and bucket to operate. For unbroken rocks, use a breaker to break them before digging.

Operation in soft areas or in water: When working in soft soil areas, the bucket excavation range should not be too large to prevent landslides or machine sinking. When working in water, pay attention to the water surface not exceeding the center of the sprocket wheel to avoid water ingress to the slewing bearing, damage to the engine fan blades, and short circuits in the electrical circuits.

Lifting operation: Use high-strength hooks and wire ropes, preferably special lifting devices. Select the micro-operation mode, move slowly and steadily, adjust the bucket position, prevent the wire rope from slipping, and keep construction workers away from the hoisted objects.

Post-operation operation

After completing the work, rotate the cab to face forward, push the control lever down to lock the joystick control, adjust the throttle to idle, let the engine idle for 1 minute to cool, then turn the key to turn off the machine and remove the key.
